International Study Visit

Champlain Housing Trust - Community Land Trust Innovation
An international study visit will be carried out from 13th - 19th September to the 'Champlain Housing Trust : Community Land Trust Innovation' project in the United States of America, winner of the 2008 World Habitat Award.

About Champlain Housing Trust : Community Land Trust Innovation, USA

Established in Burlington, Vermont in 1984, the Champlain Housing Trust (CHT) was an early pioneer of the community land trust approach of providing affordable housing in perpetuity, as well as acting as a successful means of community engagement and decision taking. CHT's homes for sale are affordable to households earning only 57 per cent of the area's median income and the organisation has over 2,200 properties for low-cost home ownership and rental. Over 200 community land trusts have been established throughout the United States, with pilot schemes currently being carried out in Canada and the UK.

Purpose of the visit

The purpose of the visit is to provide an in-depth understanding of the practical techniques, training methods and project management approaches used in the award-winning programme. Intensive site visits will form a major part of the study visit, providing an opportunity to study all aspects of the programme and to meet those responsible for its success.

Bursaries are provided by BSHF to help meet the travel and accommodation costs of those selected to take part in the international study visit.

Please note that all applications should reach BSHF by Friday 5th June 2009.
