Lottery Funding for Social Enterprises

A Community Land Trust is a social enterprise providing social and economic regeneration which benefits the community.

Village SOS

Inspire people to make a difference in their communities - an idea for a new business that could bring energy and life back to your community

 

  • Support to access Lottery funding - the final six projects will share up to £3 million.
  • Rural villages with fewer than 3,000 people - likely to fund three villages in England and one each in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland
  • Apply between 01 June and noon on 14 August 2009. launch via BBC’s ONE Show at the end of April (2010?). 
  • Nominate a 'village champion' to lead the project
  • A long-term initiative. We want to build a momentum and interest in enterprises in rural areas.
  • Interested in your views on how communities that you work with will respond to the initiative?
  • To look at the partnership opportunities in the learning strategy work

 

From the Village SOS booklet: Funding from £100k to £400k. Does cover capital. Will fund projects for 12mths 'to establish the work of the enterprise'. Could be linked to land or buildings you own or rent or wish to buy....will support projects creatively using skills of people in village, natural resources, land and buildings. Need support from a 'village champion' from outside the village. 'Will not fund projects already started but it is acceptable if you have been working on your idea already...May include itmes such as: feasibility; site investigations; consultation; cost plans; proj management plans; biz plans; frehold / leasehold / land or buildings; construction; equip purchase; fees; proj worker salaries; expenses of volunteers.

The Awards for All England programme

Aims to help improve local communities and the lives of people most in need.

If you are planning a project and you need between £300 and £10,000 then Awards for All may be able to help you. Sometimes quite small sums of money can have a big impact. The application form is short and simple, and you will find out if you are successful within eight weeks.

Are you eligible?

You may only apply for an Awards for All grant if:

  • you are a not-for-profit group, or you are a parish or town council, school or health body
  • you have a bank account that requires at least two unrelated people to sign each cheque or withdrawal
  • you have a governing body with at least three unrelated members
  • you can spend the grant within one year.

 

Community Sustainable Energy Prog’ - up to 50k

 

Reaching Communities Fund Capital £50k max of projects no more than £200k.

Projects that help people and communities who are most in need, and can really make a difference. Projects can be new or existing activities, or be the core work of your organisation. We want to fund projects that respond to needs identified by communities, and those that fund projects that help those most in need including those people or groups who are hard to reach. We want to encourage the following changes to communities as a result of our funding:

  • people having better chances in life, including being able to get better access to training and development to improve their life skills
  • strong communities, with more active citizens, working together to tackle their problems
  • improved rural and urban environments, which communities are better able to access and enjoy
  • healthier and more active people and communities.


Are you eligible?

You can apply to Reaching Communities if you are:

  • a registered charity
  • a voluntary or community group
  • a statutory body, (including schools)
  • a charitable or not-for-profit company
  • a social enterprise – a business that is chiefly run for social objectives, whose profits are reinvested in the business rather than going to shareholders and owners.
